I finally went bathing suit shopping, and like I expected, it was rough. It’s very difficult to find an inexpensive, flattering, and cute bathing suit. I finally ended up just buying tops and bottoms separately that I knew I could mix and match with other things I own. Of the few places I went the selection really wasn’t too great. Everything was either too young (sparkly and pink and tiny) or it was too mature (think high tech tummy control in dark slimming colors). Eventually I settled for just solid colors (purple, turquoise and green) and basic shapes. This all being said, I think that there are some really cute bathing suits out there that are flattering and sexy at the same time, without being inappropriate. I haven’t found one for myself, but this outfit really shows off what I mean.
This red top is so cute. It isn’t too low cut, but the side cutouts add an extra sassy element. The colorful bottoms are also a lot of fun. Beach coverups can be very cute I think if they are tasteful and can actually be worn in places that require clothing, like restaurants or even just a diner or something on the beach. This cover-up is cute but also modest. I do spice it up a little bit with the platform wedges though. I have just recently discovered the magic of wedges. They have the attractiveness and height of heels without all the pain and fuss. The jewelry is also simple and understated while the bag gives a pop of color to brighten up the rest of the clothing. I hope your bathing suit shopping experiences went better than mine, and I hope you like this outfit!
Just like I think animal print is Slytherin’s thing, I feel like retro and vintage is kind of a Hufflepuff thing. Don’t ask me why. All I know is that I’m loving this Sixties bra-top bikini with the retro black bottoms. I added in a high-waisted short to add to the theme because I think the bikini top could be worn plain with the shorts and that would be adorable as well. The glasses also go along with the fun vintage feel, and the polka dots on the hat add a cute little pattern to the mix. And the elephant is there. I can’t really explain the elephant, I just really love elephants. Enjoy!
I’m not exactly sure why, but for some reason I think animal print is a very Slytherin thing. It doesn’t make much sense, but maybe it’s because snakes can shed their skin, so apparently in my twisted logic that means that they should wear other skins. I guess. Anyway, no matter the reason for it, the prints work really well in this outfit. Even though I’ve never worn one, I think sarongs are so cute and stylish for the beach, as well as comfy. The print works well even though it seems to clash a little bit with the bikini top. Clashing prints just don’t look good, but for some reason these two just work. That being said, because I’ve used two different bold prints, everything else is very simple. The jewelry, purse, and shoes are understated. Even the bikini bottom is very plain. I’m a big fan of mix and match bikinis and I tend to use a print on top with a solid color for the bottom. Maybe I’m just hoping it will bring the eye upward and away from the parts I’m not so secure about. Just another example of my twisted logic. Well anyway, hope you like it!
It’s Summer!! I’m not usually one to be excited about wearing bikinis but some of them are just so darn cute you can’t help but love them. Exhibit A: This adorable polka dot bikini. Polka dots are classic and cute, period. Here I’ve added a fun swingy yellow tank and some white cuffed shorts. The sunglasses are a little bit retro, making the polka dots even more perfect. I’m a little obsessed with the polka dots if you can’t tell. Anyway, the other awesome part about this beachy outfit is the jewelry. Beach jewelry should be subtle but still fun. This parakeet necklace and matching feather bracelet are the perfect simple combination for this summery and breezy outfit. Hope you like it, and hope you like polka dots 😉
So this is the last installment of the athletic series and honestly it’s not my favorite. I don’t think yellow and red work very well for athletic colors (or I just picked the wrong shades). My alma mater’s school colors are maroon and gold, so pretty much Gryffindor colors, and they often used white as a filler color. Maybe I’m just not too into this outfit since today was my rest day for exercising. I have done nothing remotely physical today and although I’m enjoying it, I miss exercising, which I never thought I’d say. This outfit does bring back some school spirit for me though. I only just graduated and already miss it bunches! Anyway, hope you like it, and happy Sunday!
Since we’re in the middle of this workout theme I decided to share with you some of my workout/running adventures. Today I went for a pretty long run (for me anyway). It ended up being about 3 miles of running and a cool down for .3 miles, so in total it was a 5k. This is the longest distance that I’ve been able to get up to so far and since I only recently started “distance” running, this is a pretty big deal for me. I struggle with breathing and soreness just like most people, but I also recently have been noticing the problem of chafing. Since it’s been pretty warm out recently, I sweat buckets when I’m running, and I also wear shorts. This apparently is not a good combination because I end up getting some uncomfortable chafing since I don’t have that desired “thigh gap” that a lot of women are fighting for. There’s really not much to do about this, but I have found that wearing longer shorts, or even capris or pants seems to minimize the chafing.
This is basically a very roundabout way to introduce this outfit, which includes capri leggings. I have found Victoria’s secret workout/yoga clothes to be comfortable and well-made (although sometimes overpriced). They are definitely cute though and very comfy. I also have a Victoria’s Secret sports bra in this outfit, which I don’t own myself, but is something that I can vouch for. There is also a nice zip-up jacket included. My workout fashion collection is still growing so I don’t currently own a lot of cold weather workout clothes, but I thought it would be a nice touch to the outfit. Hope you like it!
Like I said before, I’m in love with bright colors for my workout clothes, so this outfit was really fun. I never usually use bright greens for Slytherin (because it’s Slytherin), so this definitely new. This is more of an outfit that I would wear myself, since it includes a shirt and a little more material in the shorts area. I also love the sneakers. I often find myself wanting to go for a run just so I can wear my pretty sneakers. Hey, motivation is motivation. The bag here is also quite nice. I’m not usually one to actually go to the gym since I work out at home, so I’ve never really needed a workout bag, but I appreciate how helpful and useful it can be (and how nice it matches the rest of my outfit)! Hope you like it!
Recently I have been trying to become a healthier and happier person by focusing on exercising and eating right. It is definitely tough, but what I do have a lot of fun with is the workout gear. I love buying brightly colored sports bras and shorts since sometimes it’s only the thought of wearing those fun colors that actually gets me motivated to workout! Anyway, I will be doing a short series of workout gear for all of the houses. I don’t think that they would wear any of this stuff to quidditch practice, but maybe they had secret yoga classes in the room of requirement or something. I feel like Trelawney would have been a supporter of that, she seems like the yoga type.
So here is the first outfit in the series. This sports bra is just awesome, I love all of the colors! Now personally I’m not one to workout wearing just a sports bra and spandex, but sometimes when it gets hot I become a big supporter of minimal clothing, so I won’t knock it down. The water bottle is just a fun pop of color (and also obviously your hydration source. I am always chugging water because of the amount I sweat and it’s still never enough, though my bladder begs to differ.) Speaking of sweat, the headband is perfect for keeping hair out of your face and thus sweat droplets out of your eyes, because honestly that stuff stings worse than shampoo. Hope you like it and get your workout on!
So this is the last installment of the alliterative collection I have done so far (casual, classy, comfy, cute). From now on I might just do whatever comes to mind, or I’ll come up with another alliteration, I don’t know yet! Anyway, here is a comfy Gryffindor outfit. This was inspired by my upcoming return to camp counseling (New England Music Camp, check it out) and how much I love flannel for a comfy summer summer night, sitting by a campfire, singing songs, all that jazz. I like the yellow scarf particularly because it seems pretty versatile, like it could be used as a scarf or tied up and put in your hair. The necklace is awesome too, because let’s face it, mustaches are hilarious. Hope you enjoy the outfit and are inspired to get in the camp counselor spirit and go for the laid-back flannel look. It works for me!
Apparently bows are now a Hufflepuff thing because I always seem to include them in these outfits! The shoes here are absolutely adorable. I’ve always wanted some cute pumps with bows on them and these are perfect because they are black and therefore practical since they’ll go with most anything. The bag here is also fabulous, I love that it combines all of the colors. With the necklace I wanted to do something bold but sleek. With the plunging neckline sometimes it’s best to do a big necklace since you don’t want to leave everything completely bare. This necklace works well because it follows the shape of the neckline, working with it. The earrings follow the same basic geometric pattern. If the earrings were round they wouldn’t have matched as well. Well, enjoy!
